![]() Why? If you get a +3 on any hole, the game simply advances you to the next hole. You will never get 9 strokes on a hole.Still, there some inexplicable things this game does that ruin the experience quite a bit: As you level up and unlock shot types, the game opens up and your golfer can actually execute shots. It's absolutely a "slow burn" game - because out of the box your golfer is simply inept. The game has promise, but it has a long way to go before it reaches its potential. I much prefer 2K - it at least has the ability to set the difficulty to suit more casual gaming. In the end I gave up and am playing as an Asian woman :) I was expecting to be able to make my golfer at least vaguely resemble me, but there is just not enough adjustments possible. The player models are also very very limited. Player animations are creepy as hell, and even when maxed out it really doesnt impress me. Even then I am finding the shot fading or drawing for no apparent reason in 3 click mode, so you end up rolling off into a bunker or grass. I am finding that approach shots are almost impossible to get right unless you use the 'full' guide to tell you where the ball will land. Putting is extremely annoying - in 3 click mode I had assumed that when clicking to the white sections I would get decent (or at least in the ball park) pace to the hole, but most of the time that is wildly off - Ok, so I am ment to use the grid to guess how much pace I need to take off or add, but it's just not a fun mechanic. Had the game for a few weeks and have been playing it solidly, trying to give it a fair go.Ĭome to the conclusion that i really dont enjoy it at all. Perhaps 2k just provides more tools for me to enjoy the game casually and in EA's pursuit to create a more simulated experience it got lost in the weeds. I will play out the rest of my 10hr trial and perhaps it will all click in that time, but it's a rough start for me. But getting used to the swing mechanics and putt mechanics makes that all hard to enjoy. I did mention I play casually, so the biggest hook for me was the stats and progression. Perhaps I'll enjoy that system more in this game. One big note is that they will be implementing a 3 click swing system in a future update. Though it feels cheese using the putt preview, I very much more appreciate it in 2k. It does show the line to follow to get to the hole, but you have to guess the angle and power yourself, which I get is how it should be, but with idea how the gauge works I 100% always overshoot. ![]() The putt mechanics feel even more arbitrary, or perhaps I haven't played golf games enough. I adjusted the swing difficulty to arcade and my swing animation to fastest to maybe help, and maybe I think it is. ![]() I did experience it in the tutorial of 2k21 but maybe I turned it off or it was just there for that part of the tutorial? Anyway, bottom line, I enjoy how I swing in 2k21. Underswing, over swing? Slow? Fast? I didnt focus on these as much in 2k21. Next to the circle is the swing timing, but again feels arbitrary because of the swing delay. In 2k23, I at least appreciated the calibration of it all, and perhaps I did not dig into the settings more to fine tune it back to closer feel like 2k21. In the bottom right it had what I thought was similar to my swing straightness in 2k, but the feedback comes after the shot, not as youre making in in 2k. Visually there is a point on the swing arc, but it's so arbitrary. Pull back on the stick and I had to wait for my guy to reach the apex of his swing. Felt like I was pulling back on a pinball plunger in a pinball game. I thought perhaps I can play by feel, but just as I seen in other posts, it's delayed. I did see in Challenges the coaching challenges, but it's not there. At least intuitively, I understand what I am looking at. I'm looking all over for the one in EA and I can't find it. What am I even doing? Getting into 2k, there was at least a tutorial mode. This is an observation of the male faces, I can't speak to how the female faces look. I get they were going realistic, but they over shot and the faces all look like Halloween masks. The create a character was pretty shallow but the faces.hoo boy. Even in a golf game they manage to put in what I can only describe as sports game swagger. First impression is that, yep I'm in an EA game. I tried calibration and it helped a little bit ultimately, I refunded on steam and patiently waited for EA. Like the sensitivity of my stick swing was turned away up. I gave it a shot and immediately I could see the dislike. The gameplay moves fast and everything is responsive.Ī couple months ago 2k23 was on sale and I made a post on whether it was worth it, seeing as people who play the series more regularly didn't like it, but it was divisive. I had 2k21 from a bundle in my library and gave it a go and I am hooked on it. So I recently got into golf sims casually.
